In celebration of National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 21, Gopuff has provided the scoop on America’s consumer ice cream preferences. Analyzing orders across the country and surveying customers, the food delivery company’s report recaps the most popular frozen treats, reveals unexpected pairings and more.
America’s favorite ice cream for the better part of a decade is Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked pint. It has been Gopuff’s most-ordered ice cream every year since 2014, except for 2021, when it was second only to Ben & Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake.
In the debate of vanilla vs. chocolate as the most preferred flavor, vanilla comes out on top. Fifty-six percent of survey respondents voted for vanilla, while 44 percnet of respondents voted for chocolate.
Other popular ice cream flavors among Gopuff customers include:

Some of Gopuff customers’ favorite ice cream novelties include Reese’s Peanut Butter Ice Cream Bar, Bubbies Hawaii Strawberry Mochi Ice Cream and M&M’s Vanilla Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich, while some of the favorite ice cream brands alongside Ben & Jerry’s include Talenti, Bubbies Hawaii, Blue Bunny and Haagen-Dazs.
When it comes to the perfect pairing with ice cream, Gopuff ranked the five most popular toppings based on customer survey responses:
- Oreos (18 percent)
- Whipped cream (13 percent)
- Brownies (10 percent)
- Chocolate sauce (10 percent)
- Sprinkles (9 percent)
Gopuff’s recent findings also revealed a surprising array of popular ice cream toppings. These unconventional toppings highlight a growing trend of adventurous and salty flavor pairings:
- Gummies
- Pickles
- Potato chips/pretzels
- Bacon
- Cereal
- French Fries
- Boba
- Olive oil
More than a quarter of ice cream sales are purchased between 8-10 pm. Sunday is the most popular day to order ice cream on Gopuff, with 17 percent of sales happening on that day. When the choice is between a cup and a cone, people would prefer to have a cup & cone combo (52 percent), followed by in a cone (34 percent) and in a cup (14 percent).
