Carnival season kicks off in New Orleans on January 6 and lasts until Tuesday, February 16. For years, chef David Guas of Bayou Bakery has looked to bring that extravaganza to Arlington, Virginia.
This year, that comes in the form of a celebratory box full of festive supplies. The Mardi Gras in a Box comes with the bakery’s signature Bayou Bakery King Cake (complete with a DIY decorating kit), a Mardi Gras Murder Mystery Party Game for eight players, 24 tricolored Mardi Gras beads and doubloons, eight Mardi Gras masks, one Mardi Gras boa and one bottle of Pat O’Brien’s signature Liquid Hurricane Mix.
The popular king cake is a Danish-style cake with creole cream cheese filling. It can be decorated with the enclosed white icing, then dusted with sugars in purple, green and gold.
