McCormick looks at summer food and beverage trend in Flavor Forecast
McCormick & Company, Inc.’s Flavor Forecast spotlights fresh flavor insights and inspiration from around the globe. The company has announced its latest trend from that forecast, titled “Refresh. Replenish. Rehydrate.,” which explores creative icy beverages and treats.
Consumers are looking for refreshing new ways to hydrate, replenish, and beat the heat this summer. Classic summertime items like lemonade and snow cones can be replaced with beverages such as grapefruit basil shaved ice mocktail and buttermilk masala chaas drink, and treats such as blackberry sweet potato ice pop and frozen kaffir lime pie.
“Our latest Flavor Forecast trend reinvents traditional cooling treats to meet everyone’s increased craving for bold flavor experiences,” says McCormick Executive Chef Kevan Vetter. “A chili spiced watermelon rosé granita and a blueberry vanilla calamansi juice shaved ice are innovative ideas to meet growing online searches for mocktails and non-alcoholic cocktails.”
“Refresh. Replenish. Rehydrate.” focuses on three specific areas:
- Craft Cocktails on the Lighter Side: Give your low or no-alcohol craft cocktails bold, concentrated flavors from fresh fruit syrups, bitters, sours, and spices.
- Nourishing Treats: Sweet and savory pops, slushies, and mousse spotlight the goodness of veggies with delectable taste from ingredients like mint, dill, ginger, cinnamon, blackberries, and pineapple.
- A New Creamy Cool: Instead of milkshakes, new creamy creations are inspired by subtropical regions like India and Thailand. Buttermilk masala chaas drink, frozen kaffir lime pie, and mango lassi bites with coconut cream feature both dairy and plant-based ingredients.
